Don Ward

Don founded The Comedy Store in May 1979 in London’s Soho. The Store was situated above a strip club ….well someone had to do it! Opened his one and only branch in Manchester, September 2000 on Deansgate Locks … alas, no strip club! He is the Director of the Manchester Comedy Festival in conjunction with the City Council; in 2006 he presented the 5th Festival. He started way back in the last Millenium as a stand-up, hosting r-n’-r road shows with the stars of the day, Cliff Richard, Marty Wilde Billy Fury et al. He bought an old struggling night club in Soho, gave up performing (British public were grateful) and started the alternative comedy in 1979. He is co-executive producer on the Open Mike productions of the TV show ‘The Comedy Store’ (six series) for Paramount Comedy Channel. He is producer and CEO of the Comedy Stores in London and Manchester.
